Detailed history
Finished 1906, connects the Teltowkanal with a length of 38 kilometers the Havelseen in the west of Berlin with the Dahme water way in the east. It was built, in order to relieve the Spree in the city. Electrically propelled tow locomotives pulled the freight barges from the bank through the water. With the end of the Second World War and in times of the cold war the water way lost however its meaning.

Now the development of the channel has, in the context of the traffic projects "German Unit project 17", begun. Ships with a load-carrying capacity of 2.000 tons can then call the Osthafen. In addition the channel banks are to be deepened and to be widened, the channel bed on 3,5-4m and be brought bridges on a uniform passage height of 5.25 meters. Planned costs 315 millions Euro, planned completion in the year 2010.

From the Jungfernsee the way leads by the Glienicker Lake. Before puncture to the Griebnitzsee is the point of kilometer 0 of the Teltowkanals. At km 8.3 one passes the only watergate in the channel in Kleinmachnow. The only public berth is at km 15.3 before the Eugen-Kleine-Bruecke on the left bank.
Die Tauchtiefe beträgt im Teltowkanal 2,2 m, die geringste Brückendurchfahrtshöhe liegt bei 4,4 m.

Maximum speed for sport boats: Glienicker Lake as well as Griebnitzsee to branch Prinz- Friedrich-Leopold-Kanal: 12 km/h, then to Dahme mouth 8 km/h. Also from the Grossen Wannsee one can reach the Teltowkanal by the Prinz-Friedrich-Leopold-Kanal.

For vehicles over 1,5 m broad width one way traffic according to the following rules: From the Stoelpchensee towards Teltowkanal - passage only to each full hour to max. 20 minutes after the full hour (e.g. 10.00-10.20 o'clock).
From the Teltowkanal towards Stoelpchensee - passage only to each half hour to max 20 minutes after the half hour (e.g. 10.30-10.50 o'clock).

The submerged depth amounts to: 1.30 m. The permissible maximum speed amounts to: 8 km/h.
